      River Trail Nature Center
         Located on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21), 3/4 mile southeast of River Road (Route 45) in Northbrook.

Surrounding the Des Plaines River in Lake County, this trail meanders south through the Potawatomi Woods Preserve along Milwaukee Avenue, with stretches of crushed gravel trail that are perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding. 

Besides the trails, you'll also find the kid-friendly River Trail Nature Center, which features animal exhibits, 2.4 miles of hiking-only trails (bike racks are available), restrooms, telephone and displays about Native American tribes who once lived in this area. And along the trail in River Forest is the Trailside Museum of Natural History, a wildlife rehabilitation center run by the Forest Preserve District.
